Here are some of my favourite budget places to stay in central Bangkok. I am not a fan of the Khao San Road area since I am not interested in the backpacker scene so most of these reviews are based around the Sukhumvit Road area. Most of the places I stay are under 1200 baht per nice since that suits my budget. I like to be centrally located, I like the Sukhumvit Road area so my preferences are biased towards that area. Sukhumvit Road is a great place to stay, there is exciting night life, great shopping ranging from upmarket shopping centres through to street stall. Also Sukhumvit Road has plenty of late night bars, discos and entertainment areas.

Honey House Hotel
The Honey House Hotel is on Bangkok Soi 22 which is a great road because there are many inexpensive non-sex themed bars which are great to hang out on. An older mix of backpackers and budget tourists hang out here. The hotel, which is really more of a guesthouse than a hotel is set amongst some nice plants, ponds and there is an attractive outdoor restaurant. At night they have CCTV security for the guests, there is no cufew and they have all night security guards. When I stayed there I paid 800 baht for the room and was not charged extra for a late checkout.
Business Inn Sukhumvit 11/13
Business is a cheap hotel owned by the same group as The Grand Business in, but is on the next road and the rooms are half the price. The rooms are only 600 baht. They are clean, air-conditioned rooms with decent showers. The 600 Baht rooms are very small. There is just enough room for the double (not queen) bed and the wardrobe. I like this place because it is clean, cheap and a great place to get your head down. I have stayed at this hotel many times and have never had anything stolen. The rooms are always clean. There is nothing wrong with the rooms, only that they are small. Personally I do not need a large room and only use this hotel as a place to get my head down so I really do not see any problem with the room size. Soi 11/13 is a bit of a dive, but there are plenty of cheap late night street bars which outside which are a great place for people watching. You can sit with a beer and try some “street food”.
The Landmark Hotel
OK, The Landmark Hotel certainly isn’t a budget hotel. This five star hotel is situated on Soi Nana one of the most famous night life areas in Bangkok. Usually I do not stay at this hotel unless there is a special offer on. Booking online at Agoda.com it is possible to get a room here sometimes for as low as $80. For five star luxury in the heart of Bangkok this hotel really is a gemstone deal if you can are lucky enough to snap up one of their promotions. Tip: You can use Google Alerts to look out for deals like this.
