Enjoying NYC with children

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

If you are looking for a great time then a trip in to New York City is what you have got to do. Adults and children alike can’t seem to get enough of the Big Apple.  In fact, New York City gets over 40 million tourists a year.  There is so much to see and do for every age and every preference.  You will want to take into consideration the company that you are traveling with in order to enjoy your trip to the fullest.  While there may be some attractions that you really want to see, when you are touring with children you may have to push it off for another trip.  For instance, visiting Ellis Island is experiencing history in such a vibrant way; that is if you are an adult.  Children have a very different take on this to put it lightly.  Spending time there with children is something you don’t want to do.  Plan your trip accordingly and you will find many places that your children will enjoy thoroughly and so will you.  In general, if your children are enjoying and are happy campers, you will be too.

Beach Retreats for your Brazil Holidays

Monday, February 27, 2012

More than almost any country on earth, Brazil is spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. Tourists flock to places like Buzios, Praia do Forte and Porto de Galinhas to enjoy the miles of golden sands and the terrific resort hotels, but if you really want to get away from it all on your Brazil holidays, then you might not want to share your beach time with anyone else at all. Luckily, the miles and miles of coastline mean that there are plenty of places where you can get away from the crowds and relax in your very own beach paradise...

Fernando de Noronha

Fernando de Noronha – Photo by flickr/huggy47
In some ways Fernando isn’t exactly off the beaten track – it’s kind of a poster child for holidays in Brazil and regularly features in magazine articles and the like. However, visitor numbers here are tightly-controlled by the regional government so the islands’ World Heritage Site status is protected and with demand well outstripping supply, you can be confident that you aren’t going to be deluged by package tourists or backpackers: rightly or wrongly, they’ve been totally priced out of things. Fernando may not be the cheapest place you’ll visit on your Brazil holidays, but it’s definitely one of the best. From the glorious but deserted beaches like Praia Americano, to the picture-perfect rock formations and hills like the Morro Dois Irmaos, it’s a truly beautiful island, while the snorkelling and scuba-diving in the clear, warm waters around is some of the best in the world.

Things You Did Not Know About London

Friday, February 24, 2012

If you are planning on visiting the UK then you must visit London as well. London is full of famous sites and attractions but these sites have unfortunately become so common that someone coming into London has usually already seen them in photos and videos. This reduces the excitement of visiting London. Despite having these over-visited places, London has some well kept secrets. This article will describe some of these secrets that you may not know about London and will hopefully encourage you to visit the city.

Heritage and History Secrets

On the south-east corner of Trafalgar square, is Britain’s smallest police station. This police station is so small, only one person can fit in it. Put up by Scotland Yard in 1926, they utilised it as an observation post to monitor protesters who – then as today – used the square for public demonstrations. It’s unknown importance notwithstanding, today it is used as a store for cleaning equipment.

Still on the subject of small things, when people are in London, they can get to see the smallest lamp post that still works. It is less than 3 feet high. However, size is the only small thing about it. Like the rest of London, it has a rich history behind it. The intricate sculptures that cover it attest to the fact that, at one time, it was not the most insignificant.

Three fabulous cities to visit in Switzerland

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Switzerland is one of the most famous countries in Europe. It is well renown for its chocolate, cheese and its banking system. But while chocolate and cheese are great things, these are not the main reasons to visit Switzerland. People are attracted of Switzerland due to its breathtaking landscapes and its pretty and tidy cities. When other European countries fought bloody wars, Switzerland remained neutral and therefore most swiss cities have original City centres which buildings date back for a very long time. In this guest blog entry I want to provide you with some insights into three Cities, which should not be missed when visiting Switzerland.

Chur

Chur city, Switzerland - Photo by bfishadow
We will start our journey in the eastern part of Switzerland – the city of Chur; Chur is Switzerland’s oldest city – there have been settlements in that area since approximately 4000 BC and at 15 BC the Romans made it the capital of the Province of Raetia Prima. This was, due to Churs perfect geographical location. Its located in the valley of the Rhine, surrounded by impressive mountain ranges. But the climate is very moderate, for an alpine City, and there are several wineries in the surrounding villages (so do not miss out on the local wine). With its long history (it became also the first bishopric north of the Alps) your main activity in Chur will be sight seeing. Its medieval city centre has a lot to offer. There is a great audio-guided tour to do – 5000 years of history in 120 minutes! If you stay in Chur longer, you should also do some trips to the surrounding valleys – hiking in the Mountains of Graubünden is great!

A Traveler's Guide to Siena

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Siena is one of the most famous cities of Tuscany, in Italy. The central territory of Siena's county encompasses one of the largest portions of the region, wich also includes many Tuscany villas for you to stay at. However, the city itself is quite small with no more than 60 thousand inhabitants.

The past of Siena is nonetheless among the most glorious in Italy. Up to 1348 the city rivaled with Florence for grandeur and wealth, finally succumbing during the black plague, which reduced the number of its population to an impoverished third.

Today Siena can be admired in all its splendor, since the historic center of the town has been jealously kept through the centuries, maintaining its original buildings and street plan.

The Most Popular Teas in Britain

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Britain and tea are nearly synonymous with each other. In the mid-18th century, ale gave way to tea as the most popular beverage in Britain. Some 165,000,000 "cuppas" are now consumed in the UK every day. The world of tea is a rich and varied one, with different spices and flavours added to different tasting leaves grown all over the world in endless combinations that make for heaven in a cup. With so many options, we thought we'd best take a look at five of Britain's favourite teas and how they made the list.

Sightseeing Attractions in Tenerife

Monday, February 20, 2012

Tenerife is a haven of diversity and by far the most popular destination for visitors to the Canary Islands - for good reason too. While its trump card is year-round sun, even in the depths of December, it has something of a split personality and is packed full of sightseeing attractions - making it just as suitable for families as it is for all-night party animals.

Firstly, shop around to find somewhere to stay. The island is packed with accommodation but it’s well worth taking your time to find affordable Tenerife hotels that suit your lifestyle as well as your budget. Party animals and last-minute sun-seekers generally head South to the likes of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, while those that like something a little more laid-back often choose Los Gigantes on the West coast or Puerto de la Cruz in the North.

6 exceptional European cities to visit

1. Tallinn

Street in the old town of Tallinn - Photo by flickr/LHOON
The capital of Estonia has a je-ne-sais-quoi which cannot help but attract travellers who seek something slightly off the beaten path. Make no mistake, you still get plenty of drunks on stag weekends but if you venture further than the foreigner-crammed bars, you’ll discover that Tallinn is a rough gem waiting to be polished. Start by taking the bus tour to decide which place you’d like to visit in more details later.
If that city proves too small for you, Helsinki, Europe’s most northern capital is but a short ferry ride across the Gulf of Finland.

How to Spend Your Holiday in Mallorca

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Mallorca may not be one of the top tourist destinations in the world. In fact, most people who won’t even recognize that this is a place. Probably, one reason is because of its small geographical size. You won’t see this place in any ordinary map unless you are using a digital form of map which you can zoom in and out.

Located in the Mediterranean Sea, this Balearic Island is a small country that offers a lot of attractions. It is a dream paradise for many tourists. If you can see some pictures of this place, you won’t surely think twice about making a visit here. Well, there is nothing you would regret once you make a holiday trip here. Camping Do’s and Don’ts - Rules of the campground!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Up until a couple of months ago, I thought camping was the worst holiday idea ever. I’d been camping a grand total of three times and had absolutely, without a doubt, sworn off it for life, but then I gave in one last time for a short break with some of my closest friends. Somehow, they managed to persuade me that it wouldn’t be that bad and, guess what, it wasn’t! Camping with people that really know what they’re doing helps a lot, since I’m still a complete newbie at this whole living in the wilderness thing.

I’m planning another camping trip once spring comes around, but I’ve already learnt that you need to know your stuff in order to enjoy your holiday. It isn’t as easy as it looks, but if you can get to grips with some of these camping dos and don’ts before you go away, you should be fine.
